AICTE has made internship mandatory for engineering students, but students are yet facing difficulty in finding a good internship
According to TOI report: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) might have made internships compulsory for engineering graduates, but landing one, in the city’s Information Technology (IT) industry, continues to be a challenge for students, particularly those enrolled with lesser-known institutes.
Most companies approach top colleges for quality students and hence the students enrolled in lesser-known institutes finds it difficult to land into a decent internship.
One of the reasons why there is a limited number of internship offer, experts say, are as several students look at an internship as just a mandatory exercise they need to complete to get their degree. Another reason being the apprehension among the companies to take on board temporary staff. This is to avoid a possible breach of confidentiality. Small companies, on the other hand, have financial constraints.
But this should not be an obstacle for students enrolled in lesser known institutions for their internship. Every student must get a fair chance to get an internship. If companies are not approaching colleges then students should find internship online and not just for the sake of getting one but to gain some industry knowledge.
