The Courant annual summer newsroom internship will be named in memory of staff Lisa Chedekel, who died battling cancer.
Lisa Chedekel worked at The Courant and was known for her tenacity, thoroughness and dedication to the principle that righting wrongs was the heart of great journalism. Her work changed minds and influenced policy throughout the country, earning her numerous accolades along the way.
The first Lisa Chedekel internship is offered to a journalism student from Ohio University.
Chedekel died at the age of 57 leaving behind two children and her wife.
The Courant also is donating $2,500 in Chedekel’s memory to C-HIT, the Connecticut Health Investigative Team, to help fund scholarships for high school students interested in pursuing careers in journalism.
